Are you thinking of ideas for excursions or short getaways without leaving Madrid? In this blog we propose a series of essential excursions, to which you can dedicate a whole day and get to know the city of Madrid better.
Excursion to San Lorenzo del Escorial:
One of the most typical excursions for schools throughout our community, where we can learn more about the reign of Philip II.
Situated on the southern slope of Mount Abantos at an altitude of 1028 metres in the Sierra del Guadarrama, San Lorenzo del Escorial is, since 2 November 1984, part of the list of World Heritage Sites.
You can visit: The Plaza de la Constitución and the Monastery itself, the Plaza de Jacinto Benavente and Real Coliseo de Carlos III, the Mueso de Cocheras del Rey, the Church of San Bernabé Apóstol and the Ermita Virgen de Gracia and Silla de Felipe II.
We can also unveil all the mysteries of one of Madrid’s most emblematic buildings with a guided tour of the monastery.
Due to its extensive green landscape, it is an ideal place for hiking routes, from Barbieri we recommend the following ones: Cruz Rubens, Monte Abantos, La Silla de Felipe II and La cueva del Oso.
After visiting the town or going on one of its hiking trails, who wouldn’t want to eat? We would like to recommend some of the most emblematic restaurants in El Escorial:
Charolés Restaurante, el Asador del Rey, Montia and Cava Alta among others, where you can enjoy typical dishes such as suckling pig or cocido madrileño.
As it is located in the community of Madrid, it is surrounded by numerous towns of interest, such as: Guadarrama, Cercedilla, Manzanares el Real and Miraflores de la Sierra.

Excursion to Aranjuez:
Where we can visit the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, with its amazing gardens, the Casa del Labrador, the Plaza de San Antonio and the old part of the city, declared a Historic-Artistic site because it is a unique example of Baroque town planning.
Together with El Escorial, it is one of the most famous towns in the region, where you can go canoeing, horse riding and even fly in a hot air balloon.
The visit to Aranjuez can be done perfectly in one day, although if your intention is to visit the interior of the palaces and museums, and to have time to visit the different restaurants and gardens, then we recommend spending a few days more.
As we know that these excursions are tiring, we would like to recommend some of the most emblematic restaurants in Aranjuez, where you can recharge your batteries to continue your visit.
Some of them are: Azahar, El Tomate, Casa Pablo, Casa Camelo among others, where we can enjoy the typical food of Madrid.

Excursion to the Palace and the area of El Pardo:
The Palace and gardens are more than 500 years old. You can also take advantage of the opportunity to take a pleasant hiking route, following the course of the Manzanares River to the Pardo Dam, where it is not unusual to see deer and other animals.
In addition, they have a very important attraction which are some viewpoints made of wooden planks that allow you to see the skyline of Madrid.
The Pardo mountain is known for its natural wealth, we can realise this by looking at its extension on Google Maps, which makes it an ideal place for a walk.
In Barbieri, we would also like to recommend a visit to the village of El Pardo, where we can also enjoy a wide variety of restaurants, with their pleasant terraces.
Such as: El Gamo, Restaurante San Francisco or Mesón del Pardo.

Finally, we would like to highlight a number of other excursions: to the port of Navacerrada, the San Juan reservoir, Chinchon, a visit to the village of Patones de Arriba….
We will talk about them in another blog, but from our point of view, if you are thinking of making an excursion in the community, you could not miss the ones we have mentioned: El Escorial, Aranjuez and El Pardo.
In Barbieri real estate we offer you properties for families, in Aravaca, Chamberí and Salamanca neighbourhoods. Discover all the available flats in Madrid here.
